I’ve been wanting to start a monthly photo roll since last December. Suddenly, I realized that in three days, we will be halfway through the year — and I still haven’t started uploading pictures! So I’m going to try to fix that over the next few days, starting from the beginning of the year. Here we are, starting from New Year’s Eve, and working through my first real snowfall. (I don’t care what Chicagoans say about this not being a real winter, it felt real to me!)
- Flying from Fresno back to Chicago on New Year's Eve. It was beautiful.
- Mom and I caught a very early flight to Chicago on New Year's Eve.
- So pretty. I miss this.
- 'Cause I never get tired of mountains.
- I was fascinated to see a cutoff oxbow river bend. I've heard of them but never seen one.
- Stolen from my Path account, I love this filtering.
- Mom and I ready to go out for New Year's partying!
- <3
- Oh man, did WE need coffee New Year's Day!
- I saw this cheap trunk at Home Goods and wanted it for a coffee table, but couldn't transport it home. The next day, after work, I went back to measure it and see about shipping. And I decided just to strongarm it back on the bus. When Mom called to ask if I'd found out about the cost, I said, "Oh, yeah, shipping is free." Just a little sweat!
- The amphitheater at Millennium Park. Supposedly they have great summer concerts here. It was a little cold in January to imagine summer!
- The Bean, formally known as Cloudgate. I can't imagine having to clean the fingerprints off of it.
- Mom and I take the obligatory "hey, it's us in the Bean!" photo.
- And here we are with the Bean as a backdrop. It's seriously awesome, which you really can't tell from these pictures.
- The Water Tower, one of the few buildings that survived the Great Chicago Fire.
- The Hancock Building on a sunny (FRIGID) day.
- I was pretty impressed with this snowfall until the one that hit later in January. The second one shut a bunch of busses down. But the first one sure was pretty!
- Snow on a fence along Lake Shore Drive.
- Everything's white! Waking up to this was SO weird.
- My neighborhood under snow.
- More of the houses around me, but with snow.
- Where did the cars go?!
- This is Salvation Army's "officer training" campus. It's a freakin' awesome old house that sprawls out over at least an acre.
- Icicles on a church in my neighborhood.
- Trib Tower, look particularly Gotham-esque.
- Marilyn looks cold.
- My first major snowfall (and the only one I really faced this year). I sure wouldn't want to drive in this! But I did learn that it takes a hell of a lot to shut this city down.
- WHAT IS THIS I DID NOT SIGN UP FOR THIS
- Snow is so *quiet* when it falls.
- I took this picture for Mom. This bar isn't far from my apartment, and we ate several dinners there in September when I moved out. It sure looked different five months later!
- Snow falling toward one of my neighbors' ornamental lawn lights.
- Well done, thou good and faithful snow boot.
- My street, snowed over.
