The wheels on the bike go round and round

The Air Force Cycling Classic
Participants in one leg of the bike race take a breather and watch the next division go by.

Do you know what a hundred racing bikes sound like?

I do now.

While wandering around Crystal City today looking for food, I stumbled right into the middle of the Air Force Cycling Classic. I want to make some comparison to cicadas or a buzzing old incandescent lightbulb, but the truth is that nothing really sounds like that many racing bikes all going full-speed.

Today was an excellent day, and included my moving for the third time in four weeks (Phoenix to Fresno, Fresno to Crystal City, Crystal City to DC). It feels wonderful to finally be able to unpack my suitcase and sort the dirty clothes from the clean ones. And somehow, now it feels like I really do live here. I’ve been walking around my new neighborhood with a giant goofy grin on my face, scaring small children and causing drivers to rubberneck. I am so incredibly blessed to be here with the opportunities I have.

I’m very glad that I get to live in the District proper. Somehow, living in Crystal City made me feel like I wasn’t really part of the area. I figure I may only be here for three months, so I might as well be in the middle of it all! (Except when the middle of it all is a bike race in Virginia. I’ll no longer be in the middle of that. Single tear.)
