Internship!

My WaPo press badge/nameplate. Look, Ma, no typewriter!

Today was the very first day of my internship at the Washington Post. It’s incredibly surreal to be doing something that I’ve anticipated for so long. (I’ve known about this since December!) There was, of course, the HR training (“don’t sexually harass each other”) and the computer system training (“don’t leave your password as ‘changeme'”). But then there was lunch with the editors. Marcus Brauchli sat at my table with Ben Bradlee, who went around the group introducing himself with a “Hi, I’m Ben,” as if there were any way we could possibly miss him.

The barely restrained excitement we all felt took a toll, and by the end of the day, all of the interns (about 15 of us total) were exhausted. But none of us can wait for tomorrow, when we actually get to sit in on our first story meeting and then spend the rest of the day working in our departments. Bring on summer!
