Geeks!

The third day into my photo-a-day challenge, and I’ve already fallen down on the job. I will not count this as a loss, however, because I spent the day coding at a gathering of DC-area geeks. DevHouseDC is a place for any geek of any flavor, from hardcore programmers to electrical engineering tinkerers. I spent most of my day researching child theming for WordPress. (you may have noticed that the design for my blog is horribly broken. That’s because I’m in the process of redesigning it and just don’t get very far very often!) I learned how to use action hooks! It was as if the skies opened and angels sang. It was also incredibly surreal to work with people that I knew from ONA, knowing that I’m now in DC for more than just a few days. I wonder how long it will take to sink in that I’m not on vacation?

In more sober news, I got some rather sad news about a friend of mine I’d hoped to reconnect with in DC. No, he’s fine, but by all accounts his sudden success has gone to his head and made him a complete jerk. There are so few good people in this world that losing one of them — especially one who seemed cut from the same cloth as myself — to ego is unspeakably depressing. My friends, if I succeed to the level I hope I may, God willing, keep my boots firmly planted on humble ground, okay? <3
